Burglary Suspect Who Snacked on Jell-O Arrested by Laguna Beach Police

"Jell-O isn't served at County Jail," the Laguna Beach Police Department said in a news release

A burglary suspect was arrested Monday after breaking into an Orange County business and helping himself to a cup of Jell-O.

Shortly after 5 a.m., the suspect identified only as Ross broke into a business on the 800 block of South Coast Highway in Laguna Beach, authorities said.

Once inside, he made his way to the refrigerator and helped himself to a cup of Jell-O. While snacking on the Jell-O cup, surveillance video shows him continuing to scope out the business.

The building was quickly surrounded by Laguna Beach police officers who were alerted by an alarm inside the business.

Ross surrendered and was arrested. He was charged with burglary, providing a false name to police and a $300,000 felony warrant for a prior burglary in Los Angeles, police said.

The Laguna Beach Police Department offered four tips to anyone thinking of committing a crime in the city.

  1. Don't break into businesses, you'll get caught on video.
  2. Don't do drugs.
  3. Don't give us fake names, we'll find out who you are after you're fingerprinted.
  4. Jell-O isn't served at County Jail

The department ended its news release with a note to "all the hard-working honest people out there."

"The next time you go on your lunch break and notice your food is missing from the company fridge, remember Ross. It's not always the co-worker that steals food."
