Tyler Perry Presents Tyler Perry's Box Office Win

LOS ANGELES -- "Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail" captivated moviegoers, who shelled out a total of $41 million to see the comedy in its debut weekend, according to final figures released Monday.

"Coraline" ($11.4 million) came in second, followed by "Taken" ($11.2 million), "He's Just Not That Into You" ($8.5 million) and the Oscar-laden "Slumdog Millionaire" ($8.3 million).

Rounding out the top 10 were "Friday the 13th" ($7.9 million), "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" ($6.8 million), "Confessions of a Shopaholic" ($6.7 million), "Fired Up" ($5.4 million) and "The International" ($4.4 million).

The 12 highest-grossing movies earned a combined $119.6 million over the weekend, up 32.87 percent from the $90 million generated by the dozen top earners during the same period a year earlier.
