High Desert Could Get Wal-Mart Supercenter

Not in my backyard.

In the past, lots of cities have protested against Wal-Mart Supercenters.  There were complaints about traffic and congestion.  But in this dismal economy, what about the jobs it would create?

And so those are the burning questions right now before the city of Barstow; what do they want?

Wal-Mart just submitted plans to demolish it's old building on Montara Road to create a 195,000 square foot grocery and retail center.

According to the Desert Dispatch, the new place might include a bank, a drive-through pharmacy or even a medical center.  It even plans to start selling alcohol in the new facility, something they're not doing now.

The proposed project is now in the hands of City Hall.
