California education officials have suspended two campuses of a private school serving special-needs children.
The Press-Enterprise reported Monday that Bright Futures Academy had its Riverside and Apple Valley locations suspended by the state Department of Education. The campuses can continue operating but cannot take new students.
The department's suspension letter says the Riverside site has been found to be "harmful to the health, welfare or safety of an individual with exceptional needs," the Press-Enterprise reported.
Apple Valley has been suspended because of crime problems. Sheriff's deputies received 132 calls involving incidents at the school between Dec. 28, 2015 and March 11.
Academy officials declined to comment.
The department did not specify if the suspensions are related to the death of Anthony Corona, who died in December after a bus ride home from the school.
