Attacker Pulls Woman Into Bushes: Police

A man tried to assault a woman in a busy shopping area in University City, according to San Diego police.

Around 8:30 p.m. Saturday, a 21-year-old woman was walking in the 4500 block of La Jolla Village Drive, across the street from the Westfield UTC mall. That’s when a man grabbed her and pulled her into the bushes, police say.

Police say witnesses heard the woman’s screams and chased away the suspect before he was able to assault her.

Carmello Baviera, manager of P.F. Chang’s on La Jolla Village Drive, says he was surprised to hear about the attack because there are a lot of people walking in the area that time of night.

“We always tell our employees just to be safe to walk with somebody, but I’ve never heard of seen anyone being assaulted,” Baviera said.

The suspect had a mustache and was wearing a long sleeve shirt with black and white sleeves, black pants and a black baseball cap. Anyone with information should call the San Diego Police Department.
