Brawl Breaks Out at Semi-Pro Football Game

A brawl involving around 40 people broke out after a semi-pro football game in Rohnert Park Saturday afternoon, according to police.

Officers arriving on the scene around 3:45 p.m. initially thought as many as 100 people were involved in the brawl in the parking lot of Rancho Cotati High School, police said.

Additional officers had to be called in from the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office, Sonoma State University and Cotati before the crowd could be brought under control. Officers eventually determined that the fight involved around 40 people from a semi-pro football game that had taken place at the school's arena.

The game had been halted because of fighting on the field, but the fights resumed once players were in the parking lot, police said.

The rest of the crowd was made up of people trying to leave the high school after a girls softball tournament.

Two or three football players suffered minor injuries and three vehicles were damaged in the fight.

No one from the softball tournament was injured.

No arrests were made, but a battery complaint will be forwarded to the district attorney for possible prosecution, police said.
