Man Arrested for Trying to Set Fire Inside Oakland International Airport

A 60-year-old man was arrested Friday for allegedly trying to set some cardboard on fire inside the Terminal 1 baggage claim at Oakland International Airport, police said.

It’s unclear what he set the cardboard on fire with. Oakland fire department officials responded to the airport around 3:30 a.m. but the fire was already out when they arrived.

A TSA agent spotted the incident and immediately called the Alameda Co Sheriff, an Oakland Airport spokesperson said.

Sheriffs deputies responded and were able to take the man into custody.

It’s not yet clear whether the man fled after starting the fire.

No equipment, flights or passengers were impacted because of the fire. Nobody was injured in the incident.
