21 Children, 2 Adults Injured in Stairwell Collapse

Twenty-one children and two adults were injured Saturday when a stairwell collapsed at an indoor gym in Barrio Logan, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue (SDFD).

About 50 kids attending "Kids Night Out" at Vault PK, a Parkour training facility at Main and Sigsbee streets, ran at the same time to the upper level of the indoor gymnasium for pizza.

That is when a deck and stairwell collapsed.

Twenty-one children were injured. Three or four may have suffered spinal injuries and were immediately transported to the hospital in "more serious" condition, SDFD spokesperson Steve Wright said. All other children were transported to various San Diego hospitals with minor to moderate injuries.

A parent told NBC 7 they received a phone call from Vault PK alerting them that his son suffered a bloody nose. He did not find out how severe the incident was until he showed up to the hospital.

His son suffered a bloody nose and possibly a broken ankle.

Parkour is a style of military martial arts that combines running, jumping and climbing to travel as quickly as possible from place to place.

Vault PK hosts Kids Night Out from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturdays in November, according to its website.
