Obamacare in Calif. Saves One Family $400 a Month

So far more than 16,000 people have signed up for health insurance on Covered California, which is the state's way to access Obamacare.

Right now Rakesh Rikhi pays $950 a month to insure himself, his wife and two children with Kaiser.

He came to the health trust in San Jose to get help determining if the new affordable care act truly will be affordable.

Rikhi was stunned to learn that through covered California he can get a similar Kaiser plan for his family for $400 less a month.

He quickly did the math and found he had just saved $5,000 a year.

Rikhi is also a small business owner. He has an auto repair shop with four employees. He’s hoping with the savings he will be able to afford to offer his workers medical insurance.

Now that he knows his potential saving, Rikhi says he can’t wait to sign up and looks forward to feeling relief from the financial pain of skyrocketing insurance costs.

Alfonzo Rios is a supervisor for the health trusts insurance program. He hopes more people like Rikki will make appointments did to get help getting covered.

"More than anything we want to get the word out on how to apply and the places to go and let people know there is a shop and compare too,” Rios said.

So far more than 16,000 people have signed up for health insurance on Covered California, which is the state's way to access Obamacare.

Covered California says more than a million people have check out their webiste.

Still, many are confused about the process.

If you are among them you can go to the Berryessa Flea Market in San Jose and attend a special health fair which is aimed an making the process easier. The Flea Market's address is 1590 Berryessa Road in San Jose.

The fair will be open through the weekend from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
