“Painted Lady” Victorian Sells for $900,000 Under Asking Price

Now here's a rare property -- it sold for under the asking price.

It's not just a "Painted Lady," but it's a corner painted lady.

And yet that didn't help the mansion at Grove and Steiner streets on San Francisco's Alamo Square sell for more than the asking price, which is de rigeur in San Francisco today.

Curbed reports that 722 Steiner Street sold for $3.1 million, or almost 25 percent below the asking price of $4 million.

The 5-bedroom, 4.5-bath manse was first listed in 2010, and was used as a rental and event space in the four years it refused to sell.

The house was the personal residence of the builder who put together the row of Painted Ladies -- so-called "Postcard Row," now photographed by visitors from around the world -- and sold for a robust $65,000 in the 1970s.
