A teen reported a man in a black ski mask shoved her to the ground and stole her purse as she was getting off of work Tuesday night.

The 18-year-old victim was leaving work around 9:15 p.m. at the Islands restaurant located at 2255 Otay Lakes Road in Chula Vista.

She told police a man approached her in the parking lot between Chase Bank and Islands. She said he pushed her to the ground and stole her purse. She was not injured.

Chula Vista police reported he drove away in a silver sedan driven by a different person.

An acquaintance of the victim told NBC 7 the teen parked her car in a well-lit area because she thought it would be safer.

Employees of other businesses at the Eastlake Village Marketplace told NBC 7 the parking lot gets dark at nighttime and there is no security.

"I don't put it past anyone nowadays. You can't be anywhere alone," Lisa Farnham said.

Farnham said she was going to let her employer know what happened and make sure she and her co-workers are helped to their cars safely at night.
