Driver Crashes Mercedes-Benz Into House, Crawls Out of Sunroof

A home security camera captured the crash and the hit-and-run driver's desperate escape

Two children were sleeping in their bedroom early Wednesday when a driver crashed a Mercedes-Benz sedan into the La Puente home, then crawled out through the car's sunroof and left the scene, authorities said.

The crash was reported at around 2:30 a.m. in the 500 block of North Duff Avenue, according to Sgt. D. Contreras of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Industry Station.

The children, ages 11 and 14, did not suffer serious injuries.

Police said the vehicle, described only as a black Mercedes-Benz sedan with paper plates, has not been registered to anyone in the Los Angeles area, so the driver's identity was not available. Family members said the driver appeared to be in his early 20s.

Security camera video from the home showed the man crawling out of the car through its sunroof and running off.
