Restraining Order Extended After Stranger Was Accused of Breaking Into and Sleeping in Channing Tatum's Home

The order protecting Tatum, Jenna Dewan and their daughter, Everly, is good through July 23, 2024

What to Know

  • Channing Tatum granted an extended five year stay-away order for he and his family.
  • 36-year-old Chantal Cusson broke into Tatum's home and lived there for 10 days.
  • Cusson wrote that she was "infatuated" with Tatum and wanted to find him.

A judge Tuesday extended by five years a stay-away order Channing Tatum obtained on behalf of himself, his estranged wife and their 6-year-old daughter against a woman accused of breaking into their Hollywood home and staying there for more than a week in June.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Helen Zukin said a reasonable person would be "upset and frightened" by the actions of 36-year-old Chantal Cusson, who also allegedly went to the home twice last November without permission. The order protecting Tatum, Jenna Dewan and their daughter, Everly, is good through July 23, 2024.

The judge said she took into consideration a sworn statement from the 39-year-old actor in which he said he found Cusson's actions "very alarming" and "very annoying" to know that "a complete stranger, who last year came to my home uninvited and unannounced, recently broke into my home and pretended to be staying there causes me significant concern for the safety of my family and myself, as well as emotional distress."

The star of such films as "Magic Mike" and "21 Jump Street" had obtained a temporary restraining order against Cusson July 2. Tatum was not present during the hearing at which the restraining order was extended. His attorney, Blair Berk, told the judge that the actor was out of the country.

Berk also said that Cusson told police she did not oppose the restraining order. Anita Ferry, Tatum's personal assistant for three years, was the only witness during the hearing. She said Tatum's housekeeper notified her on Nov. 9 that a woman was ringing the doorbell and would not leave. Ferry said she went to the home and told Cusson she was trespassing and should leave.

Ferry said she texted Tatum about the woman's presence and that he was "very upset" that she was at his home. Cusson returned two days later and threw a letter over a wall at the home. In the letter, Cusson wrote that she was "infatuated" with Tatum, wanted to find him and was communicating with him through music, Ferry said.

Asked by Berk if Tatum was familiar with Cusson, Ferry replied he "had no idea who she was." On June 24, Dewan's personal assistant called and said Cusson had broken into the home, where she had been squatting for days, and was pulling food out of the refrigerator when found at the residence, Ferry said.

Ferry said she called 911 and a special unit of the LAPD dealing with threat management, and Cusson was arrested. Ferry said she then contacted Tatum. "He was very upset she had returned and even more disturbed to hear she had been living in his home for 10 days," Ferry said.

Dewan filed for divorce from Tatum in October and a hearing is scheduled Aug. 14. They have been married since July 2009.
