Pranksters Wearing Clown Masks Scaring Lancaster Residents

Authorities were asking residents to be on high alert after several reports of a group of pranksters wearing clown masks, possibly armed with a kitchen knife, were approaching pedestrians in Lancaster.

In all three incidents in Lancaster, nothing was taken from the victims, Lancaster Sheriff's Station said.

It appears that the group of males - it is unknown if they are juveniles or adults - were trying to only scare them, sheriff's deputies said.

This alert follows social media posts claiming that the creepy clowns - after agencies in the East Coast warned people of clowns trying to lure children into the woods - are making their way toward Southern California.

An Instagram account under the name "wearecomingtoCali" says "We will be invading Los Angeles, Carson, Culver City, Torrance, Crenshaw, Inglewood, Pasadena, Compton, Lakewood, Palmdale, etc.!! be ware [sic]"

The account has several pictures of creepy clowns and pictures of parks around Los Angeles County, warning users of where the clowns are appearing next.

Lancaster Sheriff's station is asking anyone with more information to call 661-948-8466.
