A Southern California credit union employee has been convicted of fraud and conspiracy for giving her online boyfriend nearly $3 million in credit.
Indira Mohabir of La Palma was convicted Monday of 15 federal charges and could face decades in prison.
Prosecutors say she opened 25 phony lines of credit for Phillip Cook in late 2014 and early 2015 while serving as a business loan processor at Western Federal Credit Union, based in Hawthorne.
Authorities say Cook, who lives in Las Vegas, managed to withdraw about $1 million before the scheme was discovered and criminal charges against him are pending.
Authorities say Mohabir had a romance with Cook that involved daily texts, emails and phone calls. Cook also sent her flowers and money.
