Cycling's Amgen Tour of California Enters LA County

The race will force some road closures

The 2017 Amgen Tour of California will enter Los Angeles County on Wednesday at the end of a 99.1-mile stage from Santa Barbara to Santa Clarita.

The cycling race will force some road closures. Eastbound Magic Mountain Parkway will be closed between Auto Center Drive and Citrus Street beginning at 5 a.m. and westbound Magic Mountain Parkway will be closed between the same two streets from 2 to 5 p.m., city officials said.

Between roughly 3 and 4 p.m., rolling closures will affect southbound The Old Road from Newhall Ranch Road to Magic Mountain Parkway, and Magic Mountain Parkway to Citrus Street.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the areas of The Old Road and Magic Mountain Parkway between 3 and 5 p.m. Riders are expected to cross the finish line around 3:45 p.m.

A "Lifestyle Festival" will begin at noon adjacent to the Stage 4 finish line at Magic Mountain Parkway at Westfield Valencia Town Center. It will include exhibit booths, food, cardiovascular-health awareness information and large video screens showing race coverage.

"We are extremely excited that Santa Clarita is once again hosting a stage for the Amgen Tour of California," Mayor Cameron Smyth said. "I encourage residents to come to the Westfield Valencia Town Center and cheer on the cyclists. It's one of the world's best cycling events and it's coming to our city. That's something to celebrate."

This is the ninth time in the race's 12-year history Santa Clarita has been a host city for a stage.

Rafal Majka of Poland holds a two-second lead over George Bennett of New Zealand in the seven-stage 583-mile race, which began Sunday in Sacramento and ends Saturday in Pasadena. American Ian Boswell is third, 14 seconds off the lead.
