Father Accused of Throwing 3-Week-Old Son is Charged

A Los Angeles father suspected of hitting and dropping his 3-week-old son on the floor, nearly killing him, pleaded not guilty to felony charges on Tuesday.

The suspect, 32-year-old William Lemuszetino, was arrested after officers responded about 11:05 p.m. Saturday to a domestic dispute at an apartment near Columbia Avenue and Miramar Street in the Westlake district, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The 3-week-old stopped breathing after being struck and dropped on the floor during an argument with the father's ex-girlfriend, police said.

Officer Alex Frasier from the LAPD's Rampart Division revived the child using chest compressions, police said.

"The infant was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition and has since been released to his mother," according to an LAPD statement.

The mother suffered scratches in the fight, police reported. Lemuszetino was booked on suspicion of causing harmful injury to a child and was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Witnesses said the woman ran outside screaming for help and someone called the police.
