2 Dead After Wrong-Way Driver Triggers 210 Freeway Crash

The driver killed both himself and an innocent motorist in the wreck.

A wrong way motorist on the Foothill (210) Freeway in La Cañada Flintridge triggered a vehicle crash that killed at least two people Sunday.

The California Highway Patrol received a call at 1:46 a.m. about a motorist going eastbound in the westbound lanes of the freeway at the Angeles Crest (2) Highway just minutes before the crash, said CHP Officer Stephan Brandt.

Shortly thereafter, the wrong-way driver struck another car, killing both himself and the driver of the other vehicle, CHP Sgt. Manuel Rodriguez said. Both drivers, the lone occupants of their respective vehicles, appeared to be men in their 20s, Rodriguez said.

A SigAlert issued at 2:14 a.m. closing all westbound lanes of the Foothill (210) Freeway at the Angeles Crest (2) Highway was cancelled at 5:50 a.m., Brandt said.

Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to the scene at 1:50 a.m. and made no transports to any area hospitals, according to a county fire department dispatcher.

There was no other information available.
