Torrance Police Swarm Area Near Del Amo Fashion Center Day After Shooting

Torrance police swarmed an intersection adjacent to Del Amo Fashion Center mall Tuesday afternoon, one day after a shooting left a man wounded inside the shopping center, but it was unclear if the investigation was related to the gunfire.

Aerial footage showed police examining a gun on the ground, as well as a SWAT team going into an apartment complex on Carson Street near Madrona Avenue, near the Mobil gas station.

One person was spotted in handcuffs, but it was unclear if the person had any connection to Monday's shooting.

Torrance police Sgt. Ronald Harris said he had no immediate information on what prompted the search in the area.

City officials announced at about 2:30 p.m. that eastbound Carson Street had been shut down at Madrona due to "police activity.''

Monday's shooting occurred around 3 p.m. inside the mall in the 3500 block of West Carson Street. One person was injured and was expected to survive, police said. There was no immediate word on what prompted the gunfire.

Video footage from inside the mall and posted on social media showed bystanders tending to the male victim.

Police swarmed the mall and surrounding area following the shooting, but the shooter remained at large. He was described only as a 20- to 25-year-old man with a shaved head and wearing a black shirt and checkered shorts, Harris said.
