A dog was shot while protecting its owner from a gunman in San Bernardino late Wednesday.
The animal was hit after an argument between the owner and an armed man turned violent at a transient camp in a field in the area of Perris Hill Road and Base Line Street at 10:31 p.m, a San Bernadino Police Department spokesman said.
This led to the gunman pulling out his weapon, and when the canine leapt to his owner's defense it got shot. After the shooting the suspect fled the scene in a white pickup truck.
The dog was taken to an animal emergency clinic in Grand Terrace for treatment.
