Rescuers Try to Save Dog Stuck in Canal Before Storm

Rescuers believe the dog got through a fence unlocked by city officials about a week ago, which has since been chained up

A SoCal dog rescuer is worrying that a scared, skittish pup seen wandering in a canal may be trapped there when a rainstorm is expected to soak Los Angeles this week.

A Los Angeles rescue group spotted the dog, possibly a husky mix, in a wash in Mid-City.

Rescuers believe the dog got through a fence unlocked by city officials about a week ago, which has since been chained up.

"It's painful. I've been here for seven days trying to get him out of here," said Vickie Wagner of Eloise Rescue. "This dog is in desperate need because it's going to rain and we're going to lose him. I'm here because I've been fighting to get him out of here for seven days."

People are not technically allowed to be in the wash, but the rescue group has been in touch with law enforcement to get special permission. Police do not want other people climbing into the wash.
