Ex-Downey High School Teacher Sentenced to Jail for Sex With Student

The teacher was accused of having a sexual relationship with a student over a seven-month period.

A 32-year-old former soccer coach and teacher at Downey High School was sentenced to three years in jail for having sex with a female student, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said Monday.

Staff at the high school was alerted on Oct. 9, 2014 that Brandon James Lee Hitchcock, a social studies teacher and soccer coach, was having an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old girl.

According to prosecutors, Hitchcock had sexual interactions with the girl over a seven-month period.

He was charged with 10 counts of unlawful sexual intercourse and five counts of oral copulation of a person under 18, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office said.

In November, he pleaded no contest to two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse.

Hitchcock was ordered to stay away from the girl, as well.

He faced a maximum of 13 years in prison if he was found guilty on all charges, prosecutors said.
