Driveway Shooting in Anaheim Hills Leaves 1 Dead

An Anaheim resident shot and killed a man who was inside his parked vehicle Monday morning, police said.

Officers responded about 5:10 a.m. to a report of a shooting in the 100 block of South Eucalyptus Drive, according to Anaheim police Sgt. Luis Correa.

"A resident saw a male inside his vehicle which was parked in the driveway of his residence," Correa said. "He exited his residence with a shotgun and a confrontation ensued. During the confrontation, the resident fired one round and the suspect fled.''

The wounded man was found nearby and died after being taken to a hospital, Correa said.

The resident was not taken into custody, according to Correa, who said any decision on possible charges will be up to the Orange County District Attorney's Office.

Correa said residents should contact police immediately in such situations, as opposed to confronting suspects.

The names of the suspect and resident were not immediately released.
