Six people, including a 7-year-old child, were hurt Sunday in a two-vehicle, rollover crash in Northridge caused by a driver who apparently was under the influence, authorities said.
The crash was at about 6 p.m. at the intersection of Louise Avenue and Plummer Street, Los Angles police Sgt. Rich Brunson said.
"The driver who caused the crash was apparently fleeing from an earlier crash he'd had down the street." Brunson said. "He was being followed by people who were trying to get his vehicle information for police."
The driver then ran a red light and slammed into another vehicle, Brunson said.
The six victims were taken to hospitals, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.
Their current conditions were unknown.
The hit-and-run driver appeared to be under the influence.

"There were open beer cans in his car," Brunson said. "He was placed in custody and taken to Holy Cross Hospital, because he was in and out of consciousness."
Brunson said his Valley Traffic officers were in the process of getting a search warrant for his vehicle. The name of the driver was not immediately available.
The investigation is "fluid and ongoing," Brunson said.
