East LA Shooting Leaves 23-Year-Old Man Dead

The victim was transported to a hospital and was later pronounced dead, officials said.

A 23-year-old man was shot and killed in East L.A. early Saturday after going outside his home to meet his girlfriend.

Deputies responded to reports of a gunshot wound victim at the 900 block of Kern Avenue just before 2 a.m., said Deputy Quiana Birkbeck of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

People in the area told authorities that they heard the fatal gunshot ring out.

“People heard a single gunshot, heard someone yelling for help,” said Detective Ron Duval.

The victim was transported to a hospital and was later pronounced dead, officials said.

Duval said there were no witnesses to the shooting but investigators learned that the victim was walking up Whittier Boulevard to meet his girlfriend, who was walking to his home, when he was shot.

“We just need witnesses to come forward and tell us what they saw,” Duval said.
