Attacker Sought in Attack of Off-Duty Deputy Outside East LA Home

The deputy was on the way to work during the attack early Friday morning

Officers are searching for an individual wanted in connection with an attack on a Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy Friday in East Los Angeles.

Police responded at about 6 a.m. to the 3400 block of East First Street. The stabbing victim, later identified by the sheriff's department as an off-duty deputy, was hospitalized.

The injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The deputy was on the way to work and not wearing her uniform at the time of the attack by a man in his early 20s, according to investigators. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and tan cargo pants.

The attack occurred outside the deputy's home.

"The attack was violent, it was fast, and the deputy had to fight to get that assailant off of him," said LAPD Sgt. Barry Montgomery. "They mention mental toughness in training. It's obvious that it was on display because he fought."

No arrests were reported early Friday afternoon.
