Elderly Man Tied Up, Robbed at Home in Rancho Palos Verdes

The man suffered minor injuries, but was not taken to a hospital.

An elderly man was tied up after two robbers found him sleeping while they ransacked his home in Rancho Palos Verdes, sheriff's officials said.

Two men broke into the home in the 2000 block of Van Karajan Drive through a first floor window around 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, said Lt. Bel Pinto of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Lomita Station.

As they made their way through the residence, they found a man in his 80s or 90s sleeping upstairs, Bel Pinto said. They tied him up and continued to ransack the home.

Once the robbers left, the man freed himself in about 45 minutes and immediately went to a neighbor's house, where he called 911, authorities said.

The man suffered minor injuries, but was not taken to a hospital.

"It's scary," said Elaine Blatt, the neighborhood watch captain. "Fortunately I do have motion-sensor lights."

Blatt said some in the neighborhood have surveillance cameras.

There was no description of the robbers Wednesday morning.

Police encouraged anyone with information about the robbery to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Lomita Station at 310-539-1661.
