2 Wounded in Shooting at Elysian Park Bike Path

Two men were shot Friday near the entrance of Elysian Park at the start of the bike path during a bicycle robbery.

The gunfire erupted around 8:55 p.m. when a family of four was taking a night ride at the park, according to Lt. Richard Parks of the Los Angeles Police Department's Northeast Station.

Two males, one believed to be a minor, approached the family and demanded the men give them their bikes and when the victims refused, one suspect pulled out a gun and shot them in their legs, Parks said. The suspects then took off on the bikes, he added.

The victims are believed to be 47 and 27 years of age, according to Parks. The younger man was critically wounded and the 47-year-old man was in stable condition. They were taken to a hospital for their injuries, Parks said.

The suspects are believed to be gang members 16 and 30 years old, according to LAPD.

They were dressed in black clothing but Parks didn't have any other details to describe them.

No one else was injured.
