Family Holds Bedside Vigil for Teen in Coma in Hit-and-Run

Police searched Thursday for a hit-and-run driver who left a 19-year-old man in a coma with a shattered pelvis and broken ribs.

Francisco Colores Cortés was critically injured Monday night in Granada Hills by someone driving a white Chevrolet Silverado pickup with off-road tires, tinted windows, a chrome grill and rims. The family set up a gofundme site to raise money for his care.

"I get it," said Cortés' sister, Anahi. "Accidents happen. You might not always see. You might hit something or someone. The fact you left my brother out there? You don't do that."

His mother, Norma Colores, described him as happy. "My son is a really happy person," she said. "Lovely boy. Helping people."

Before the crash, the Animo Venice Charter High graduate and aspiring chef worked at a Santa Monica restaurant.

His mom says she's forgiven the driver but family still wants the person found.

"My son is really critical situation. All what I want is my son to be better. I want these people to know, they're breaking families. They're breaking lives."
