Family in Crash Speaks Out After Car Plows Into Restaurant

Amazingly, the family in the crash was not seriously injured in the crash.

A family was counting its blessings on Thanksgiving after a mother and father were not seriously hurt in a crash caught on camera - a sedan came crashing through the wall of a pizza restaurant as they enjoyed their dinner Tuesday night.

"I'm so thankful that they are alive and my family and I get to have Thanksgiving with them," Tiffany Sturm, the victims' daughter, said.

Surveillance footage showed the remarkable scene as the car came barreling through the wall at the Inland Empire restaurant.

NBC4 spoke to Helen Sturm by phone Wednesday. She choked back tears as she talked about being especially grateful this Thanksgiving.

"I'm thankful my husband is alive," Helen said. "We're so grateful for another day."

Around 7:15 p.m., the Sturm family was eating at All Star Pizza at 2601 Del Rosa Avenue in San Bernardino when the car came crashing through the back wall of the restaurant.

The freak accident left Sturm counting her blessings as she watched the footage, which showed tables and chairs flying through the air.

"We are so thankful of this miracle that they walked out of this scary accident," Sturm said.

Helen and her husband are regulars at the San Bernardino pizzeria and they usually sit against the wall, right where the car came crashing in. The family believes divine intervention made them choose a different table last night.

"I thank the Lord for his protection," Tiffany said. "I'm so blessed to have them in my life and I get to share this time with them," Tiffany said.

A worker at the pizza place said he just heard a big "boom."

"It really was scary," Sam Maayah, the restaurant owner, said. "The first moment was really scary because I thought the impact was too hard."

Initially, police said all injuries were minor and no one was transported to the hospital, but the Sturms ended up going after suffering through pain.

It was unknown what caused the driver to crash, but it is believed he or she suffered a seizure.
