One person was killed when a car collided with a semi truck, shutting down all lanes of the northbound 5 Freeway in Boyle Heights during the Monday morning rush hour.
The collision was reported at 4 a.m. on the northbound 5 Freeway south of the 10 Freeway transition, according to the California Highway Patrol.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Up to three lanes were reopened on the northbound 5 Freeway just after 6 a.m. The transition to the eastbound 10 Freeway remained closed.
Traffic was backed up for miles.
It was unknown when all lanes would reopen.
