Fire Burns Over 100 Acres in the Grapevine After Big Rigs Crash

Two burning big rig trucks prompted the temporary closure of southbound Interstate 5 near Grapevine Road early Thursday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

All southbound lanes were closed around 3:15 p.m. Thursday, but all but one lane was open by 4 p.m.

The fire from the trucks spread to a nearby hillside, and quickly burned over 100 acres, according to the Kern County Fire Department.

One of the trucks was filled with asphault, and some of the asphault was spilled on the ground, CHP noted.

It was not immediately clear if anyone was injured in the blaze.

Crews were working to reopen the closed lane Thursday evening.
