Firefighters Rush to Contain Small Wildfire

A brush fire that briefly threatened structures in the Southern California community of Newbury Park was quickly attacked by firefighters from the air and on the ground.

The Ventura County Fire Department said early Friday evening it had halted the blaze's spread at 8 acres and expects to have it fully contained by late evening.

The fire began shortly before 4 p.m. on a brush-covered hillside in Newbury Park, about 50 miles northwest of Los Angeles. The cause is under investigation.

No one was evacuated but a road in the area was closed. Firefighters advised people to stay away or those in homes to stay inside.

Firefighters used air tankers, bulldozers and ground crews to fight the blaze.
