Flight Delays, Cancellations During Holiday Rush at LAX

Passengers were urged to contact airlines for updated flight information.

A number of flight delays and cancellations were being reported Thursday morning at Los Angeles International Airport, and travelers were urged to contact their airlines for the latest information.

Although airport operations were near-normal for such a busy travel day, some departure delays this morning were related to the stormy weather, which caused flights to take off to the east instead of to the west because of more favorable wind conditions, said LAX spokeswoman Mary Grady.

On Wednesday night, a number of delays were due in part to a "capacity issue" related to a larger number of flights that were scheduled compared with a normal day, Grady said.

"It was the busiest travel day of the year," Grady noted. "There were more planes and more passengers."

Grady told NBC4 the following delays and cancellations were being reported for the 12-hour time period between midnight and noon today: 78 arrival delays and 96 departure delays; and 22 arrival cancellations and 33 departure cancellations.

She urged passengers to contact airlines for updated flight information.
