Four Killed in Head-On Freeway Crash in Lake View Terrace

A 30-year-old wrong way driver triggered a two- vehicle, head-on crash Sunday that killed him and three women in another car on the Foothill (210) Freeway in Lake View Terrace.

The California Highway Patrol was notified at 1:47 a.m. of a vehicle going westbound in the eastbound lanes of the Foothill (210) Freeway near Wheatland Avenue, said CHP Peter Nicholson.

At 1:52 a.m. the CHP received reports of a two-car crash involving a 2011 Chevy Impala, driven by a resident of Chatsworth, and a 2015 Toyota Corolla with three occupants, a 60-year-old woman driving the car and her two passengers -- a 50-year-old woman and a 30-year-old woman.

Firefighters and paramedics dispatched at 1:53 a.m. to the crash scene reported that three people were pronounced dead at the scene and one person, the 60-year-old woman, was rushed to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in critical condition, according to Amy Bastman of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The 60-year-old woman later died from their injuries, Nicholson said. The occupants in the Toyota were residents of Baldwin Park. A SigAlert, issued at 2:40 a.m., closing all eastbound lanes at Wheatland Avenue, was lifted at 7:40 a.m., CHP officials said.

The CHP's Altadena office asked anyone who saw the crash to call them at (626) 296-8100.
