One Arrested After Deputies See Gunfire on Freeway

One person was arrested and three people were being questioned Tuesday night after sheriff’s deputies said they saw gunshots fired out the passenger window of a car on the westbound 118 Freeway near Mission Hills.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Transit Services Bureau, officers in a patrol car saw a muzzle flash come out of the passenger-side window of a small compact car just before 8 p.m. near the 405 Freeway interchange.

No one was hit by the gunfire and the target of the shots was not immediately clear.

The sheriff’s deputies followed the car to the 8700 block of Gloria Avenue in North Hills, where the people inside the car were detained. The person who had been sitting in the passenger-side front seat was arrested and the others were questioned.

At 10:15 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers were on the freeway in an apparent search for evidence.

Traffic was at a stand-still for nearly an hour as officers were seen scouring lanes and the brush on the shoulder for evidence.

The CHP reopened the 118 freeway at 11:15 p.m. and traffic resumed.
