Garcetti Set to Head to Copenhagen For Climate Summit

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti is scheduled to fly to Copenhagen, Denmark Saturday for the C40 World Mayors Summit, where he is set to speak Thursday and Friday.

Garcetti is scheduled to join former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo in making what is billed a "Special Presentation" Thursday and participate in a panel discussion Friday titled "We Need a Just Transition for a Thriving Planet."

The summit will run Wednesday though next Saturday. Garcetti is scheduled to remain in Copenhagen through next Saturday.

The summit is titled "The Future We Want."

It is organized by C40 Cities, a group of 94 cities committed to taking "bold climate action" by implementing the goals of the Paris Agreement.

The trip is Garcetti's second to Europe this year. He combined what his office called "a personal trip" with official visits to Copenhagen, London and the Vatican, including a meeting with Pope Francis, Aug. 3-10.

Other scheduled speakers at the summit include former Vice President Al Gore and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-New York.

Bloomberg is the C40 board president and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' special envoy for climate action.
