Gardena Police Search for Driver in Hit and Run

A man and his service dog were nearly mowed down by a hit-and-run driver in Gardena on Monday.

Gardena police on Thursday were investigating an assault with a deadly weapon, a car, after a man and his service dog were nearly mowed down by a driver in an incident caught on camera.

Joshua Byrd suffered minor injuries and his dog was not hurt.

Byrd says the driver mowed him down on purpose after Byrd saw him toss trash from his parked car.

"I asked the gentleman sir would you mind picking up the trash? No response," said Joshua Byrd, an Army veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. "I waited to see if he'd get outside pick it up. Nothing happened. So I walked over. I picked it up, set the bag of trash he threw on the ground, on the hood of his car. "He drove off yelling. Throwing a couple of bottles of urine on me. Sealed up. Nothing got on me."
