High Surf Advisory in Effect Until Friday

High Surf Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. PDT Friday.

A large southerly swell from Hurricane Fabio will peak in height this evening, then slowly subside through this weekend. High Surf is expected for Los Angeles and Ventura County beaches through Friday, highest on exposed south facing beaches. Other beaches will see elevated surf during this period. Strong and very dangerous rip currents will occur at all area beaches during this time as well.

Los Angeles County Coast, Catalina and Santa Barbara Islands-

High Surf Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. PDT Friday.

  • SURF AND TIMING: Surf of 4 to 7 feet with sets to 9 feet is expected through Friday. The highest surf will be on exposed south to southeast facing beaches. Strong and frequent rip currents are expected with possible sneaker waves. Minor coastal flooding will be possible during the times of highest tide.
  • TIDES: There will be forecasted high tides between 4.5 to 5 feet today and Friday between 3:00 and 4:00 PM PDT.
  • IMPACTS: There is an increased risk for ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large breaking waves can cause injury...wash people off beaches and rocks...and capsize small boats near shore. Pooling of sea water is possible around high tide at beach and harbor areas that is uncommon with normal tidal ranges. No significant damage is expected.
  • PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area...producing localized beach erosion and dangerous swimming conditions. Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
