Hundreds of Marijuana Plants Seized After Fire at Costa Mesa Industrial Complex

The blaze in the 1800 block of Whittier Avenue started due to a power overload to the electrical box

Hundreds of marijuana plants were seized after a fire at an industrial complex in Costa Mesa Tuesday.

The 4:30 p.m. blaze in the 1800 block of Whittier Avenue started due to a power overload to the electrical box, which was illegal tampered with to provide free electricity for indoor marijuana growth, said Sgt. Matt Grimmond of the Costa Mesa Fire Department.

A warrant was obtained and 257 marijuana plants were located, all in varying stages of growth.  

No one was detained, there is currently no suspect information or person of interest, and the incident is still under active investigation
