Suspect Identified in Fatal Westlake Hit-and-Run Crash

The suspect was identified as 31-year-old Martin Gonzalo Rodas, who lives in the Westlake area, Central Traffic Division Detective Calvin Dehesa said.

Police Tuesday released the name and image of a driver sought in a hit-and-run crash that killed a 30-year-old man a week ago in the Westlake district.

The victim, identified as Leonides Rivas of Los Angeles, was struck about 6:20 a.m. last Tuesday as he crossed Bonnie Brae Street mid-block after parking his vehicle just north of Sixth Street, according to investigators at the Los Angeles Police Department's Central Traffic Division.

Rivas was taken to County-USC Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect was identified as 31-year-old Martin Gonzalo Rodas, who lives in the Westlake area, Central Traffic Division Detective Calvin Dehesa said.

He's believed to be the man who was behind the wheel of the white pickup truck that struck Rivas. The 2000-2005 model, possibly a Chevrolet or Dodge with a dark bed liner, was last seen heading south on Bonnie Brae Street, police said. Investigators said the vehicle probably has front-end damage as a result of the collision.

Anyone with information regarding Rodas' whereabouts was urged to call Dehesa at (213) 486-0750. During non-business hours, calls should be directed to (877) LAPD-24-7.
