Illegal Street Race Leaves One Dead, Two Others Injured in Commerce

The other vehicle left the area before authorities arrived

One man was dead and two others were hospitalized with serious injuries after a high-speed illegal street race ended in a violent crash in Commerce Thursday.

An Acura carrying the three men struck a palm tree, ejecting at least one of the passengers, in the 5500 block of East Washington Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Two men was stuck inside the vehicle, which split in half on impact, and had to be rescued by responding firefighters. The man killed in the crash was identified as 19-year-old Isaac Garcia.

The crash happened right outside o Dennis Mendoza's business of 26 years, Mr. Hose.

"I've never seen any, or heard any street racing before," Mendoza said. "It's sad to hear that somebody got killed."

The vehicle that it was racing left the scene, authorities said.

Speeds reached more than 90 mph before the wreck.
