The body of an infant believed to have been abandoned was found near a freeway in Corona, police said Saturday.
The infant was found just after 2:30 p.m. Friday by officers near Cajalco Road and Interstate 15 and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Corona Police Department.
An investigation was underway to determine the cause of the infant's death.
Police reminded the public that the city of Corona offers several Safe Surrender Sites, where parents can safely surrender an infant within 72 hours of birth, with no questions asked. A list of Safe Surrender Sites can be found here.
