Knife-Wielding Man Accosts Female Student in CSULB Parking Lot

The woman was attacked about 2:20 p.m. Monday inside Parking Structure 1 at the north end of the campus near the Pyramid

Authorities Wednesday sought a knife-wielding man who accosted a female student in a parking structure on the campus of California State University Long Beach.

The woman was attacked about 2:20 p.m. Monday inside Parking Structure 1 at the north end of the campus near the Pyramid, according to campus police.

A man called campus police about 3:45 p.m. Monday "reporting that his daughter was attacked at CSULB earlier that day," police stated.

The man told police that his daughter was on the fourth level of the structure when she was approached by an unknown man, police said.

The victim, who was walking to her car, told police she grabbed the knife and injured her hand.

The suspect dropped the knife but picked it up and ran south from the fourth level of Parking Structure 1, police said. The woman drove herself to a hospital to be treated and was in good condition, said Terri Carbaugh, of CSULB.

The suspect was described as white, in his 20s and about 5 feet 8 inches; he wore a blue baseball cap, eyeglasses, a navy blue T-shirt and blue jeans.

Anyone with more information on the crime was urged to call campus police at (562) 985-4101.
