LA City Councilman Motions to Honor Doors' ‘Love Street'

David Ryu wants to rename part of the street where Jim Morrison is believed to have written the 1968 hit

A portion of Rothdell Trail should be named "Love Street" in honor of The Doors and late singer Jim Morrison, who is believed to have written the famous 1968 song "Love Street" about the road in Laurel Canyon, according to a motion introduced Tuesday by Los Angeles City Councilman David Ryu.

While The Doors were recording their self-titled debut album in 1966, Morrison lived at 8201 Rothdell Trail with his girlfriend, Pamela Courson, according to the motion introduced by Ryu.

Morrison is believed to have dubbed Rothdell Trail "Love Street" while watching passersby from his balcony, and wrote a poem and then song in honor of the roadway, which was included on the 1968 album "Waiting for the Sun."

The motion would direct the Department of Transportation to install ceremonial signs at Tavern Trail between Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Rothdell Trail as "Love Street."
