Nine LA Public Libraries to Re-Open on Sundays

LA libraries have not been open on Sundays since 2010, due to budget cuts that forced a reduction in hours of operation

After four years without Sunday service, nine LA libraries will reconvene Sunday operation beginning Jan. 12, according to the LA Public Library website.

Budget cuts in 2010 forced libraries to cut hours and services, which were reduced to the lowest levels in the library’s 140-year history, according to a release by the Los Angeles Public Library.

Libraries began a five-day service in July 2010. A year later, they resumed Monday poperation.

A ribbon-cutting will be held at the Central Library as well as the eight regional libraries on Sunday, and family programs will also be held through the day. The libraries will be open on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
