Deputies Raid Marijuana Grow Operation in Lake Elsinore

An illegal marijuana grow operation was discovered at a home in Lake Elsinore, the second such discovery in as many days in the city, authorities said Friday morning.

After receiving complaints of possible illegal activity at a house on Via Del Renal Court, deputies served a search warrant at the home at 3:30 p.m. Thursday and located about 700 marijuana plants inside and an electrical system that "had been illegally altered causing a severe fire hazard," according to Sgt. Glenn Warrington of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

The entire home had been turned into an illegal marijuana grow and it was estimated the theft of utilities for the last year cost Southern California Edison approximately $52,000, Warrington said.

The house was deemed uninhabitable and power to the home was turned off, he said.

On Wednesday, deputies raided a grow house on Vista Palmero, in an area known as Tuscany Hills, and seized 1,045 plants in various stages of growth, Warrington said.

The electrical system in that home was also illegally altered.

Plants seized in both raids were destroyed.

No suspects were identified in either raid.
