LAPD Motorcycle Officer Injured by Hit-And-Run Driver

A Los Angeles Police Department motorcycle officer suffered a broken leg Saturday when he was struck by an SUV that fled the scene, authorities said.

The crash occurred at about 9:20 p.m. at Central Avenue and Olympic Boulevard, according to a desk officer at the LAPD's Central Traffic Division.

The vehicle was described as a maroon or dark SUV, and officers stopped a vehicle matching that description a few blocks away, the officer said.

The status of that driver was not available.

The officer was taken to a hospital for treatment.
