Multiple Goats Injured After Large Herd Crosses Riverside County Highway

Several goats were severely injured when a large herd running across a Riverside County highway was struck by multiple vehicles early Saturday morning, officials said.

Just after midnight, a driver reported he had collided with a herd of about 200 goats crossing State Route 79 at Keller Road near Menifee, according to the California Highway Patrol.

When officers arrived about 20 goats were still wandering across lanes in the roadway and some were stuck underneath cars, CHP said.

Emergency crews arrived and officers corralled the remaining goats to safety. At least six goats were severely injured, CHP said.

It wasn't immediatley clear how the livestock got wandered onto the road.

No other injuries were reported.
