A lawyer who tried to smuggle $30,000 worth of heroin into a Los Angeles County jail in a greeting card has pleaded no contest to a felony.
Stephen Beecher entered the plea Wednesday to bringing drugs into jail. He's facing two years behind bars.
Prosecutors say two years ago, Beecher tried to smuggle the drugs to a client at the North County Correctional Facility.
Authorities say the inmate's girlfriend ironed and flattened two packages containing about 36 grams of heroin so they would fit in the greeting card envelope.
